174/365 Cocaine

It seemed that every time I turned on the radio the summer of 1980, I heard the live version of Eric Clapton’s “Cocaine.”

That was the summer I was 18. I’d graduated from high school. I was on my way to college. I was all the time begging for use of the family car.

I was gettin’ some.

This song was always in the air. And although cocaine wasn’t my drug of choice, the song was part of the perfect soundtrack to “Let’s get this party started.”

Hmm. 1980 was the beginning of my three-year fuck-up. We couldn't afford coke (very often) so it was beans (benzadrine). Bad idea mixed with booze. But that was a long time ago. Like Bugs I took a left turn at Albuquerque and cleaned up. That's when I transformed myself into the charming middle-aged man that I continue to be. :-)

You do seem utterly charming. Moving past the 80s had its charms...
