106/365 Ain’t Misbehavin’/Honeysuckle Rose

After reading Writer’s Almanac this morning and discovering that it’s the birthday of Fats Waller, well, I think he needs a second recognition in this blog. I started listening to him just about the time I turned legal age, and I never looked back. Actually, I probably wasn’t quite 18, so I was listening illegally for a little while.

Here’s a back-to-back Youtube of two classics.

Fun...and interesting. Thanks! I'd always known of Fats Waller, of course, but hadn't paid much attention. He was really a remarkable pianist, wasn't he? I looked him up in Wikipedia, where it said he sometimes performed Bach organ works for small groups. He was only 39 when he died. He accomplished a lot.

Thanks for mentioning his age at death. I almost did (in part to note how much older I am than that now!). I'm always amazed when I find out how short some of these amazingly creative lives were.

Yes. The one that always comes to mind for me is George Gershwin, age 38.

Wow. I didn't know they were so young when they died.

And don't forget the 27 Club...
Hendrix, Joplin, Cobain, Jim Morrison, Brian Jones, Pigpen to name a few.
